Cigarcutter
This machine was created at a four-day workshop entitled “cigarcutter” with André Baschlakov.
The essence was to capture a past era and to express it trough the product. In my case it was the era of industrialisation. Images typical of this era such as machines, materials and social behaviour were taken into consideration. The draft was presented as precise foam model. The abstraction of the foam model supports the illusion of a sculptural machine. Sensory and tactile information about materials, colours and surfaces were presented separately as material moods.
Such a machine would stand in a central location in a smoky cigar club with leather armchairs. Elder gentlemen would use the cutter.
With the exception of the bronze support of the axle, the steel blade of the knife and perhaps a brass shield, the material used is mostly cast iron.
